As someone who has spent her entire career in learning, I have a passion for helping others reach their goals through training and education. As a lifelong learner myself, I strongly believe that training, when it is well-developed, engagingly presented, and paired with on-the-job experiences, builds a better workforce. Leadership is also important; a strong leader will be able to build relationships while helping drive the success of her team. Taken together, strong leadership and well-crafted training will drive organizational success.

What Do I Do Now?
I am currently an instructional designer in the trucking industry, but as the only instructional designer in the company, I do much more than design courses! Here's just a sampling of my jobs and tasks in my current position:
Instructional Design - I am responsible for all phases of design for our Learning Department, including conducting needs assessments, collaborating with SMEs and stakeholders, outlining and storyboarding courses, creating the eLearning, and evaluating its effectiveness. I have created a variety of courses in multiple formats (i.e., asynchronous, instructor-led, etc.), including soft skills training (i.e., "Communication and Active Listening") and industry-specific training (i.e., "MDI Training-From Shipper to Consignee"). I also develop evaluation options that follow Kirkpatrick's Four Levels of Evaluation (i.e., surveys, quizzes, observations, OJT guides, etc.)
LMS Administrator- I am responsible for maintaining our LMS, including creating courses, enrolling workers, managing updates for courses, developing learning programs, troubleshooting issues that arise within the LMS, and general maintenance and upkeep of the LMS learning platform.
Event Coordinator - I am responsible for organizing our training sessions, including booking venues, sending invitations, coordinating presenters, arranging accommodations for participants and speakers, and any other tasks needed to ensure that our trainers have everything they need to conduct the training. (Pssst - I was able to drop the per-person cost of our annual week-long training from 1100 per person to 700 per person while still maintaining the same quality of previous sessions!)
Trainer - As a certified educator, I lead training sessions, including train-the-trainer, emotional intelligence, and growth mindset sessions for our new leaders.
What Did I Do Before This Job?
Prior to my current role, I spent 20+ years in education doing pretty much everything!
I was a classroom teacher (primarily 7th and 8th grade English - I worked with newly formed teenagers every day!)
I was the English Department Chair at the building level. This meant that I provided inservice training, mentoring, and support for all of the English teachers in the building. In this role, I also designed and led county-wide Inservice sessions.
I was on many committees, including the Textbook Adoption Committee. As part of this select group, I evaluated curriculum options for use at the middle school level. This was a district-wide position, and we were responsible for the selection and implementation of the new curriculum, including preparing and leading training sessions to help teachers understand how to use the new curriculum.
I served as a mentor teacher for many aspiring student teachers as well as newly certified English teachers.
Over the years, I have been the Team Lead for various grade levels, the Professional Learning Committee Lead for the English department, and the lead trainer for our "Train the Trainer" curriculum education sessions.
I was selected to be part of the team to open the newest middle school in the district. In this role, I helped to establish and implement the policies and procedures for the new building, and I established and sponsored a chapter of The National Junior Honor Society at the new school.
Fun Facts About Me
I am resilient. I taught 7th and 8th graders for many years while raising three boys who are VERY close in age, and I survived to tell the tale! (My house is a little worse for the wear though.)
I am a life-long learner. After many years in one job, and to the surprise of some (well, many), I decided to go back to school to earn not one, but two Masters degrees. I graduated with an M. Ed in Instructional Design in 2019, and I went back in 2023 to pursue my MBA (expected graduation is 11/24). I've made peace with being a "geriatric student".
I am a master multi-tasker. I can complete a paper on effective communication styles for my MBA while preparing a nutritious meal, running loads of laundry, and babysitting my grandson, all after working a full time job during the day. (I even earned an Outstanding Recognition Award for the paper!)
I love cleaning and organizing to the point that I am seen as the "Monica" in my household (perhaps this is not a compliment . . . .) Just in case you didn't recognize it, "Monica" is a reference to a character in the sitcom Friends. If you've never seen Friends, you should watch it!
